Learn to Meditate
Small, gentle lessons. Take one a day if you like.
1. What meditation really is
It isn't emptying your mind. It's noticing where your mind went — and kindly bringing it back. Every return is the practice.
2. Getting settled
Sit or lie comfortably. Let your hands rest. Close your eyes or soften your gaze to the floor. Nothing needs to be perfect.
3. Anchor in the breath
Feel the air at your nose, or your belly rising and falling. Just notice. You don't need to change it.
4. When thoughts come
They will. Gently label them — 'thinking', 'remembering', 'worrying' — and return to the breath. No scolding.
5. The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding
Notice 5 things you see, 4 you can touch, 3 you hear, 2 you smell, 1 you taste. You're back in this moment.
6. Body scan
Slowly move attention from the top of your head down to your toes. Soften each place you find tightness.
7. Kindness practice
Silently repeat: May I be safe. May I be peaceful. May I be gentle with myself. May I live this day with ease.
8. Making it a habit
Start with 2 minutes a day, same time each day. Morning coffee, before bed. Small and steady wins.
